As we gave mention to on our Home page, Wiseys has ever so wisely (we just LOVE how that works) engaged another great Kiwi company, Pilot Coffee Roasters to bring to Leaside, the best quality coffee offerings (and teas!) to go along with our best quality pies and breads.

We offer: Traditional Black Coffee, Flat Whites, Cappuccinos, Lattes, Mochaccinos, Macchiatos and good old hot chocolate. Not sure what each of the fancy offerings is? Here’s a description of each (and don’t worry, we had to research them all to get them straight too!)….

Flat White

(This is the one we’re most excited about because it was developed in Australia and New Zealand but we naturally feel it was perfected by the Kiwis)

It is a coffee beverage prepared by pouring microfoam (steamed milk) over a double shot of espresso. Similar to a Cappuccino or Latte but smaller in volume and thus the coffee flavour dominates.

Fun Fact

Baristas usually endeavour to finish off the Flat White with latte art by pouring steamed milk into a shot of Espresso resulting in a design on the surface of the latte. It requires training and many hours of practice!

Mocha

A latte with chocolate added usually in the form of cocoa powder or chocolate syrup. Also known as “Café Mocha”.

Fun Fact

Café mocha takes its name from the Red Sea coastal town of Mocha, Yemen, which as far back as the fifteenth century was a dominant exporter of coffee, especially to areas around the Arabian Peninsula. Mocha coffee has a chocolate flavor. The cafe mocha was created to mimic that natural flavor.

Latte

Similar to a cappuccino, but without the infusion of hot milk.

Fun Fact

The term as used in English is a shortened form of the Italian caffè latte or caffellatte, which means “milk coffee”.

Cappuccino

A coffee drink traditionally made combining espresso with hot milk and topped steamed-milk foam.

Fun Fact

The name comes from the Capuchin friars, referring to the colour of their habits.

Caffè Macchiato

Sometimes called “Espresso Macchiato”, is an Espresso coffee drink with a small amount of milk added – usually in the form of milk foam

Fun Fact

In Italian, “macchiato” means ‘stained’ or ‘spotted’ so the literal translation of Caffè Macchiato is ‘stained coffee’, or coffee with a spot of milk.
